Volunteer Opportunities at
Peace House Secondary School

Central to Peace House Secondary School's (PHS) mission is the belief that personal involvement can provide an experience that enriches the lives of both volunteers and the children they help. We provide a variety of volunteer opportunities in Tanzania with the goal of creating meaningful experiences that are beneficial and rewarding to everyone involved.

Volunteer opportunities at PHS vary depending on the length of time you want to spend in Africa and what type of work you are interested in doing.

- Ambassadors are short-term volunteers and visitors who spend between one and ten days on campus, interacting informally with students (practicing conversational English, playing sports, etc) or doing minor construction-related projects (painting or gardening, etc).

- Friends are volunteers who stay between ten and 90 days. Friends have the chance to do more in-depth work with students and staff in educational, extra-curricular, or professional areas.

- Partners are long-term volunteers staying at PHS for more than 90 days. This is a great chance for a retired teacher or businessperson, someone on sabbatical, a recent college graduate, or anyone with the time to make a life-changing commitment to help the students of PHA.

- Group Volunteers travel to Tanzania in the camaraderie of a group (up to 20 participants) to do larger-scale projects where many hands are needed. PHS staff will work with group leaders to plan a meaningful and memorable experience.

All volunteers have the opportunity to stay on-site at PHS and share some of their meals with the students. Orientation and training are provided.

There are already three group trips planned for 2008.
